Activity 5: Creating/Improving my MV YouTube Channel
I began using YouTube this year to upload videos for my math class. While attending the TIES Technology Conference this past December, I learned a lot of different pieces that YouTube offers that I was not aware of before the conference. The ability to edit your videos and to post in various places starting at a certain time in the video are both great pieces to have available to you when posting videos for students to view. I have wanted to work with my YouTube channel for awhile, so this assignment was great in helping me do just that. My goal for this year is to upload ALL of my Flipped Classroom videos on YouTube so that both my students and parents can find them in one spot. Currently I am uploading them to Moodle, but think this would be easier and faster to navigate. I would also like to begin using the editing tool that YouTube offers to improve the videos that I made last year. There are plenty of things I would like to change/add/delete/fix from my starting videos!
I am embedding a video that I used last year with my students that discusses making magnitude estimates. This was one of my first videos that I created...needs some improving. :)
Watching your posted video on estimation is fun and got my creative ideas flowing! Your terminology, explanations, and visual supports hold my thinking and interest. I want to learn more about the tools you used to construct this lesson.
ReplyDeleteI also think youtube can be easy and faster to navigate. Moodle can be confusing and difficult to use if you are not a pro at the site.
ReplyDeleteI agree. Moodle can be confusing simply because it is unfamiliar to most. YouTube is so widely used, students and parents can probably navigate it more easily and are more likely to actually spend time navigating to your content.
DeleteWe should have some conversations about where our team decides to house the content that we make. There will be definite pros and cons to each. I see using Moodle to provide structure and organization, but link all videos from You Tube so that we have them all stored there were, as you mentioned, it is easier to do editing and sharing. I think whoever took those pictures for you that you used in your video did an excellent job. : )
ReplyDeleteHurray for Lambeau! Have you edited any of your videos yet? I don't remember how to do it on YouTube from the TIES conference. Did they actually show us step-by-step or just tell us about it?
ReplyDeleteGreat lesson, Katie! How much time does it take you to put something like this together?
ReplyDeleteIt is fun seeing you teach math! I only know your Spanish teacher side. This looks great, and I am glad you see the benefits to using your Youtube channel.
ReplyDeleteIt's a great video and I see how it can really be helpful to students to be able to go back and watch it several times if they need to. That's why I hope to make more of these next year to help out with some of the difficult concepts. There are some excellent ones on YouTube already for Spanish, but it may be helpful to students to have the same voice and the same style as I use in class.
