Activity 3: Digital Storytelling

Storytelling: Food in Spain

To tell a story about my favorite food in Spain, I chose to use ZooBurst. I found it to be fairly easy to navigate and fun to put together. I did not prefer the process in which you had to go through to choose pictures to add to your presentation, as I found it to be very time consuming. Although, I figured out the easiest and most efficient way to upload them towards the end. The overall hardest part for me was thinking of a topic!

I plan on using this presentation when I discuss food in Spanish. We practice talking about different foods that we eat at different meal times during the day. Sharing my experience with food in Spain adds in a cultural element in which students are able to learn a bit about life in Spain. Which student doesn't love talking about, looking at, and hearing about food?

As I think about ways that I could engage my students in creating their own ZooBurst books, there are a lot of possibilities! Students could retell the elements of a story, present different literature projects, and show different parts, such as an introduction, body, and conclusion to their writing. In math, students could discuss the steps to different operations or present their own word problems and then let the class solve them.

  1. I love that you found a very useful way to use the pop-up book. Changing things up will keep your students interested. :)

  3. Way to create something you can definitely use every quarter! Very nice. It is unfortunate that adding a voice piece requires paying for a subscription, because it would be so valuable for foreign language lessons in particular.

  4. I agree with Amanda -- voice would be a great addition, along w/ the sense of SMELL!!! Mmmmm -- everything looks so yummy. On a serious note, my daughter Siri will take Spanish 3 at MVHS next year and Seniora (sp??!!!)) Rivers always includes things like foods, and it is SO great for the kids. For example, Siri makes gallo pinto for us at least weekly and never ate black beans before that -- and also now wants to visit Costa Rica or even study abroad there. So..... in a roundabout way... I think this is a GREAT way to introduce some Spanish culture to your students!!!

  5. As a "foodie" I love your Zooburst story.
Although you noted that adding these pics. were time consuming, the pictures are clear and vivid, and are the most important "ingredient" in the story.

  6. This is really neat!! I think if you have the pictures on a computer already it could cut down on the time a lot?
